Old school sprinkle cake!

I've haven't had any crazy pregnancy cravings so far - but the sponge cake (with the hundreds & thousands with white icing on top - you know the one!) that we had in primary school, always comes across my mind. Tonight I decided to actually stop thinking and start baking and here's the result...

If I must say so myself it turned out ok the first time, it could of been better - but like my Hubby said, its all in the taste! It's a really easy bake, but somehow I still managed to fuck up the icing?? Still tasted good though :P

I came across various sites for recipes - I had to mix and match what I had in the cupboard, like some recipes called for vanilla essence but I didn't have any! So (note to future self) here's the main recipe I followed:

Ingredients
225g self-raising flour
175g soft butter or baking spread
175g caster sugar
3 Large eggs
3Tblsp/45ml milk
1 1/2 tsp of baking powder
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas Mark 4.
2. Mix the butter, flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs and milk into your bowl/mixer.
3. Beat/Mix well for 2 minutes until it is well beaten.
4. Pour the mixture into your desired baking tray and be sure to level the top of the mixture.
5. Bake the sponge for about 20-25 minutes until the cake has shrunk away from the sides of the tin or until the sponge springs back when you press it lightly with your fingertips.
6. Once the time is up leave the cake to cool in the tin and then ice!
Icing
I use 225g of icing sugar and added enough water to make a pourable icing, you can add the hundred and thousands and presto! Delicious sponge cake with icing and hundred and thousands just like it tasted back in school.

Project Nursery - had to have these!

So the day we established the colour scheme - I just happen to come across these 2 x adorable storage boxes whilst browsing the post-Xmas sales. I promised myself not to buy much for bubba too soon (the old wives tales holding me back) but I couldn't help myself! lol

The mint green stripes and shiny silver giraffe print is just perfection! I mean, look how cute :)) (I know, I'm gonna be a nightmare aren't I).

Both are from TKMaxx, priced at £5.99 each. They are gonna be used to store bubba's clothes or maybe nappy changing products? Not too sure - but I'm sure I'll find some use for them!

Your cousin is on the way!

O em gee Bubba your baby cousin is coming! Tita Radz is in labor on New Year's eve!! She's not meant to be due until 16th Jan - but I guess baby girl is eager to meet everyone :))

Project Nursery - Inspiration

It all started with these - three cushions that came with us when we moved from our old flat.

I've always loved the colour 'Duck egg' and in our bedroom at the old flat we had a whole wall painted in this colour. I'm sure the nursery will start flooding with other bright colours once we know the gender and the toys will start piling up, but for now I'm liking the duck egg, white and grey combo. I think these colours work well together and can be adapted for either a boy or a girl.

Earlier this year, we purchased a day bed from IKEA - initially for guests, but its turns out it will make a nice and cosy place for bubba and I to rest and chill when we are in the nursery. We'll eventually want an armchair in the nursery for comfort (while breastfeeding) but I guess we'll see how it goes.

Also from IKEA followed these massive Duck Egg cushions - love them!! Again purchased before I got pregnant so all meant to be I think :) I'll do a full 'nursery tour' post once its all done, I've got loads of ideas already!

Project Nursery - Nesting?

According to my app I'm 19 weeks and 6 days to date :) and it's around this time I've started to get the nesting feeling! Didn't think it was a thing but its happening!

Hubby and I have cleared out the front room this week and we've started to plan out the nursery, measuring walls and windows for wardrobes/curtains etc. Also its the Xmas holidays at the mo and the sales are quite good so I couldn't help but buy a few things :D

Your 2nd scan

Countdown to the next time we see you on the screen again Bubba :) We can't wait! Question is, do we find out if you're a boy or girl in the appointment or shall we wait to find out with everyone else?? I don't mind either way tbh - as long as you're fit and healthy, that's all that matters xx

I'm almost half-way into my first pregnancy and it's just kinda just hitting me that it won't be long till there will actually be a baby here, and that I'm actually gonna be a mum and that I'll actually have to do like mum-shit...I guess this is the reason why I started this blog. I need to get all my thoughts and worries? out of my head and try use this space to help prepare myself for all that's to come...excited/scared much?
